Carroll D. Buffum, 83, of 245 North Fifth Avenue, Canton died at 8:25 p.m. Sunday (February 29, 2004) at his residence.
Born November 17, 1920, in Putman Township, Fulton County, the son of Curtis and Effie (Wheeler), he married Martha A. Leonard on December 24, 1947, in Canton. She died February 18, 2002.
He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Leanne Buffum; four brothers; and four sisters.
Survivors include one daughter, Lynette Bubela, of Lincoln, R.I.; two grandchildren, Mrs. Chad (Jeanette) Tefft and Brian Bubela, both of Gilbert, Ariz.; two great grandsons, Joshua and Zachary Tefft of Gilbert; and one sister, Mrs. Marjorie Jones of Canton.
He served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. He served in the China-Burma-India Theater.
He worked for International Harvester Company for over 41 years, retiring in 1982. He last worked as a computer programmer. He was an avid chess player and he spent a lot of time studying the game. He was a member of the U.S. Chess Federation.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Murphy-Sedgwick Memorial Home in Canton, the Rev. Jason Phillips officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services Thursday at the memorial home. Burial will be at White Chapel Memory Gardens in Canton, with Military Rites conducted at graveside.
