Delwin "Del" Hobza, 86, of Nampa, passed away at a local care center in Nampa on Friday, October 20, 2006. A Funeral Service to celebrate his life will be held at 1 PM on Tuesday, October 24, 2006 at the Alsip & Persons Funeral Chapel. A private interment will follow at the Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Caldwell.
Del Hobza was born on July 18, 1920 in Douglas, North Dakota. He was reared and educated in North Dakota and graduated from Fergus Falls, MN High School. Following high school he attended NNU and that was interrupted by WWII when he moved to Portland, OR to work in the ship yards. Following the war he returned to Nampa and graduated from NNU with a BA degree in Business. He married Madeline Mooney in 1946 in Winnemucca, NV and they celebrated 60 years of marriage in 2006. Following their marriage they made their home in Nampa. Del owned the Nampa Cab Co. for a few years; then went to work at the Nampa Police Dept; worked as a claims adjustor for Farmers Insurance; was a founding partner in Nampa Realty and served as a Canyon County Commissioner. He also worked for the Canyon County Sheriffs Office and drove a fire bus for BLM. He attended the Nampa First Church of the Nazarene; was a member of the Nampa Jaycees; Nampa Elks Lodge #1389; was an avid horseman and enjoyed his time spent with the Valley Riders and the Canyon County Sheriffs Mounted Posse Groups; was a member of the Good Sams Kings Travelers and he and Madeline spent many summers and winters enjoying their outings in their travel trailer; always had his finger on the pulse of the community by attending many meetings at the Nampa City Council and was a voice for the Tax Payers Association; a member of the Dobbs Hunting Party of which he was a participant for a number of years; he enjoyed sports by watching NNU, BSU and especially Duke Basketball; and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Del is survived by his wife, Madeline Hobza, Nampa; daughter and son-in-law, Marlys and Dick Cutshall, Nampa; son and daughter-in-law, Gary and LuRene Hobza, Boise; 5 grandchildren, Jill Norquist, Nampa; Kim and Rick Vetere, Mammaroneck, NY; Crystal, Jonathan and Julie Hobza, all of Boise; a great granddaughter, Samantha Vetere, Mammaroneck, NY; a sister and brother-in-law, Naomi-Georgeann and Dick Wright, San Diego, CA; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Elmira Hobza and 2 sisters and their husbands, Maxine and Cliff Charlson and Marlys and Wilbur Kirk.
