Sarah was born the daughter of Keziah Caroline (McBroom) and William Mayberry. Her first marriage was to Benjamin Prue, an Osage Indian. They had a son:
- Henry Martin Prue 1874 - 1947

After Ben Prue's death, she married George S Shelley. They had a daughter, Sarah Stella Shelley
- Sarah (Shelley) Fronkier 1885 -

After George's death, she filed a widow's Civil War pension from Ben Prue's military service.

She lived most of her life on the Osage Indian Reservation in Pawhuska, Osage, Oklahoma. When she was 78, her son Henry moved her to Bee County, Texas near San Antonio, where she lived until her death. Originally she was buried there and was reburied in this cemetery.
