He was born in Augusta County Aug. 22, 1909.He attended the Pentecostal Holiness Church and was a retired weaver at the Crompton Co. Shenandoah Plant.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Pearl May Coffey Hatter.
Survivors include five sons, Saylor Austin Hatter of Stuarts Draft, Alton Hatter and Rolland Hatter, both of Faber, Jerry Hatter of Nellysford, and Wilbert Hatter of Roseland; four daughters, Mrs. Charlene Lowery of Stuarts Draft, Mrs. Shirley Varney and Mrs. Sarah Urbanski, both of Chicago, Ill., and Mrs. Leona Wimer of Waynesboro; one half-brother Johnny Allen of Afton; two half-sisters, Mrs. Nellie Pierce of Greenfield and Mrs. Maggie Zimmer of West Virginia; 24 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Etter Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Edmund R. Southers, with interment in the Pentecostal Holiness Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Saturday in Etter Funeral Home.
