Charles Carroll Cornelius 77 of Amarillo died Friday January 6, 2012.

Memorial services will be at 1:00 PM Monday in Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel with Sherman Eastland chaplain of Odyssey Hospice officiating. Military rites by DAV Chapter 26. Private burial will be in Llano Cemetery.

Charles was born on October 7, 1934 in Amarillo, Texas to Ola and Hallen Cornelius. He was a veteran of the United States Army. He received his Masters Degree in Education from West Texas State University. He was a retired teacher for the Amarillo Independent School District and taught the gifted and talented students at Coronado Elementary.

Charles loved old movies and collected antiques. He was a mentor for all of his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his siblings: Betty Lynn Cornelius, Dorothy Bruner, Richard Cornelius and Marilyn Jane Van Ausdall; and a niece Kimberly Jane Cornelius.

He is survived by his brother H.T. "Tuck" Cornelius; his nieces and nephews Viki Jane Massey and husband Dennis; Karen Jane Shepherd; John Brewer and wife Gayle; and Betty Lynn Weatherly; his great nieces and nephews Angela Jane Pruitt and husband Keith; Justin Massey; Kaylee Jane Shepherd; Kristen Jane Clark and husband Charlie; Whitney Lynn Weatherly; Becci Jane Brewer; Johnny Frank Brewer; and Tyler Nolan May; several great-great nieces and nephews; and special friends Daralyn Nelson and
Freddie Keel.

The family suggests in lieu of flowers donations to Odyssey Hospice 6900 I-40 West Suite 150 Amarillo, Texas 79106.
