Marvin L. Joyner died Dec 8, 1988 in Presbyterian Hospital. Born March 17, 1937 in Blair, OK. He attended high school in Martha, OK, and later served as an Air Force officer in the Pacific in World War II.

He was released from active service as a captain in the Air Force Reserve. He was a lay leader and founder of St Andrews Methodist Church. After the war, Joyner was active in the wholesale distribution in OKC as sales manager of Joyner/Menely Co, and the Mary Joyner Co.

He founded and edited the Oklahoma Retailer, an existing trade publication. Later he served in various capacities with Whirlpool Corporation in Houston, Dallas, Chicago and San Francisco, returning to OKC in 1971. He served as Gp. VP of Southwest Factories, then in 1977 he founded Cibco International Corp., a manufacturing and sales concern.

For the last eight years he served as deputy director of the Oklahoma State Employment Security Commission. He was an active lecturer at OCU, participating in SBA Management Assistant programs designed to improve small business enterprises throughout Oklahoma.

Joyner is survived by his wife, Claudean B.; daughter, Karen Davis of Marietta, GA; and sons, Russell Joyner of Houston, TX; James Joyner of Westlake Village, CA; Robert Joyner of OKC; Jerry Joyner of Arlington, TX; sister, Lela Cosgrove of OKC; brother, Everett Joyner of Humble, TX; 12 grandchldren and 7 great grandchildren.

Services will be 3:30 pm Sunday, Dec 11, at Hahn-Cook, Street & Draper Chapel. Officiating, Dr Willis Wheat, with tributes by friends. Private family memorial to be held at 2:30 pm Monday, Dec 12 at Lakeside Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Marvin L. Joyner Cardiovascular Fund, Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation.
