Virgil Jefferson Owens, age 85, of Blue Ball, Scott County, AR died Thursday, October 29, 1998 at Sparks Regional Medical Center in Fort Smith, AR. He was born November 18, 1912 in Union Hill, Scott County, AR to die late George and Iva Parker Owens. He was a 32 degree Mason, member of the Order of Eastern Star and the Egypt Free Will Baptist Church. He was a farmer and retired after working 25 years for the U. S. Forest Services and was a former Scott County JP and Quorum Court Member.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Eloise Hall Owens.

Surviving are wife, Frankie Holman Owens; a son and daughter-in-law, Jay and Mary Owens of Jenny Lind, AR; a daughter and son-in-law, Faye and Roy Wilkins of Blue Ball, AR; three step-sons and daughters-in-law, Sherman and Marilyn Stahl of Greenwood, AR, Danny and Earlene Stahl and Mike and Tena Stahl all of Russellville, AR; six step-daughters and sons-in-law, Nina and Charles Sullivan of El Dorado, AR, Bernice and Ed Cook of Wichita, KS, Arelene and Russell Thomas of Russellville, Loretta Owens of Havana, AR, Angie and Bob Barnett of Chickasha, OK, Carol and Roger Massey of Leslie, AR; a sister, Beatrice Horn of Danville, AR; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; 21 step-grandchildren and 19 step-great-grandchildren.

Service was October 31, 1998 at Egypt Free Will Baptist with Pastor Jerrell Willingham and Rev. Dennis Horn officiating. Interment was in Union Hill Cemetery by Cornwell Funeral Home of Danville. Pallbearers were Virgil Wilkins, Paul Wilkins, Lance Wilkins, Mike Owens, Michael Don Apple and Charlie Cossey. Honorary, Mason.
