Susan Olive Chamberlain was the daughter of Martin Van Buren Frey and Lucetta Rust. She married Lawson Watkins Chamberlain in Dale, Caldwell Co., TX, in 1882. Her sister, Elizabeth Baker Frey, married Lawson's brother, Daniel Ninian Chamberlain in Lockhart, TX, also in 1882.

Lawson Watkins Chamberlain and wife Susan Olive Frey standing in front of their home in Lubbock. According to family accounts, Lawson had to have much of his nose removed in later years owing to skin cancer.
