Oral history, shared by a Margeson cousin, states that my gr-gr-grandmother, Margaret Malinda Clawson Margeson, the sister of William H. Clawson, was half Native American and that a lot of Native Americans relatives attended her funeral. He also states that two of his aunts told him of an Indian Princess being in the family tree. He was 8yrs. old when he attended his grandfather's funeral and he recalls a lot of Lenape Indians being present. Another Vanderbilt cousin also stated that she was told by her aunt, (the daughter of a Margeson who married a Vanderbilt), that someone married an Indian princess.
This being the case, also makes William half Native American, since he and Margaret had the same parents.
The Lenape tribe were the Native Americans which occupied New Jersey. I believe William's mother, Catharine Tappin Clawson, was the full blooded Native American, but I'm still researching to prove this.
