Fred Balk, 70, Dies at Home

Fred Balk, 70 years old, former farmer in Fruitland Township many years, died today at 12:30 a. m. at his home, 491 Leonard avenue, after an illness of two and one-half years. Born in Muskegon, Jan. 22, 1881, Mr. Balk spent his lifetime in Muskegon County. He operated a dairy farm for many years and upon moving to Muskegon was employed at the Norge Corporation three years and the Daily Cleaners two years, prior to retirement. He was married to Sarah A. Farnsworth in Muskegon, March 28, 1948. Mr. Balk was a member of Unity Reformed Church.

He leaves his wife; one son, Fred Balk, Jr., of Cos Cob, Conn.; a foster daughter, Mrs. Anthony Borchetta, formerly Miss Virginia Timmer, of Cos Cob; two stepsons, James S. Farnsworth, Miami, Fla., and Thomas G. Farnsworth, Muskegon; two halfsisters, Mrs. Edor Gilbert and Mrs. Bert Weiten, Muskegon, and one granddaughter, Mary G. Farnsworth, of Miami.

The funeral service for Mr. Fred Balk will be held at 2:30 p. m. Wednesday at the Witt Funeral Home, Rev. Theodore Schaap officiating. Interment will be made in Oakwood Cemetery. Friends may call at the Witt Funeral Home. Friends are requested to please omit flowers.
