This name is listed on a "monument erected AD 1888, in memory of those members of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints who died in 1846, 1847, and 1848, during their exodus to seek a home beyond the Rocky Mountains."Joel was the son of Jonathan Campbell and Phoebe Button. He was married to Mercy Miranda Hill. They lived in Nauvoo, ILL and left in the early spring when the Mormons were told to leave. He helped to build up the Iowa area for Saints that would come after. He had many children one of which was David William Campbell who survived and helped many pioneers along the way even his own mother Mercy. Joel Campbell is my very own great-great-great grandfather.
