Charlottesville. April 13. Alexander F. Hughes, for many years a magistrate and mail carrier in Nelson county, died yesterday morning at eight-forty o'clock, after being in ill health for seven years. He was seventy-nine years of age. Funeral services were conducted from the home at Wintergreen this afternoon at three o'clock, with the Rev. J. M. Duckwall, Presbyterian minister of Greenfield, in charge.

Note: He was the son of John J. Hughes and Elizabeth Ann Proffitt Hughes. Married Sallie H. Napier at Slaughter on October 28, 1883. (Her middle name is also noted as "Eleanor" in another place.) (Slaughter was the Wintergreen area.)
