Mrs. Martha A. Griswold Belden, 84 widow of Frank H. Belden, died at 164 Glendale Avenue, Tuesday morning. She leaves a daughter, Mrs. J. Elmer Bannon, two-grandchildren, Ruth Griswold Bannon and Mahlon Stanley Bannon, and a half-brother, Arthur H. Griswold, all of Wethersfield. Mrs. Belden was a member of the Congregational Church in Wethersfield. The funeral will be held at the home of her daughter, 76 Main Street, Wethersfield, Thursday at 2:30 p.m. Burial will be in Village Cemetery, Wethersfield. The Hartford Courant

Martha was born at Wethersfield, Connecticut, on 4 January 1844; died at Hartford, Connecticut on 7 August 1928, aged 84 years, 6 months, 2 days, of a cerebral hemorrhage; was buried at Wethersfield Village Cemetery [Conn. Martha was the daughter of James Stanley (James, Ozias, Josiah, Jacob, and Michael) GRISWOLD and Prudence CHURCHILL [Conn. St. VR, Deaths, filed 9 Aug. 1928; The Griswold Family, England-America, Vol. 5, p. 111; H.R. Stiles, The History of Ancient Wethersfield, Connecticut, Vol. 2, p. 404, 1904, 1987 reprint].

Her mother, Prudence CHURCHILL, was the daughter of Levi Belden CHURCHILL and Abigail (Justus, Ozias) GRISWOLD.

Martha married Franklin H. Belden on 16 October 1872.

Martha A. joined the Congregational Church at Wethersfield, Connecticut, in 1860 [Present members, Manual of the Congregational Church, Wethersfield, Conn., Oct. 1893 and 1 Sept. 1925].

Franklin H. and Martha were lifelong residents of Wethersfield where they were enumerated in the 1880, 1900, 1910, and 1920 Federal Censuses.

Following the death of her husband in 1914, Martha resided with her daughter on Main Street at Wethersfield [Hartford Suburban Dir., 1915, 1918].
