Daniel was the youngest of seven children born to John Henry & Mary Ellen (Lalley) Schlecht. Daniel enlisted in the US Army on 6 August 1918 and served just a few months; never called to fight but ready to do his duty.
On 27 October 1920, Daniel married Elizabeth ("Elsie") Minnerath in Cold Spring, MN; she was age 28, he was 23. Born 26 September 1892 in Cold Spring, MN; "Elsie" was a twin and the ninth of twelve children born to Michael C. & Elizabeth (Braun) Minnerath.
After living in Bowdle, SD for years where Daniel ran his own barber shop, they moved to Vancouver, WA where he set up business again as a barber.
Daniel died at the VA Hospital in Vancouver, WA at age 77.
