"Mary E. Dawson of Smartsburg passed away Wednesday afternoon at Franciscan St. Elizabeth Hospital-Crawfordsville. She was 96.
Mrs. Dawson was a 1933 graduate of Crawfordsville High School. She was a member of the Woodland Heights Christian Church and former member of the Smartsburg Christian Church. She was a member of the Senior Saints at Woodland Heights. She worked at Wilson Bros. Shirt Factory and the Dellekamp's Department Store, then took up housekeeping.
Born July 22, 1915 in Champaign, Illinois, she was the daughter of Clifford H. Fry and Jessie Leona Clary Fry. She married George A. Dawson on July 3, 1938. He passed away June 18, 1994.
Survivors include two daughters, Nancy Dawson Carlile (Jerry) Brennan of Crawfordsville and Susan M. Dawson of Burbank, California, son, David Dawson of Florida, brother, Noble (Edith) Fry of Roachdale and sister-in-law, Jane Swank of Smartsburg, eight grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Leon Fry, son-in-law, Kenneth Carlile and grandson-in-law, Doug Dennis.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 2 PM in Burkhart Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Wilke officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery North. Visitation will be from Noon until 2 PM Saturday."
