Dallas Rose Sexton Newport, 80, passed away May 12, 2011, at St. Mary's Medical Center of Scott County in Oneida.

Born February 12, 1931, she was preceded in death by her parents, John Riley and Hattie Sexton; husband, Ernest Newport; brothers: John Riley, Jr., Loyd, Floyd, J.D., and L.C. Sexton; and sisters: Betty Jane Sexton, Mary June Sexton, Shirley Jean Reed, Hazel Oma Mills, and Artie Mae Hughett.

She was of the Baptist faith, and was a member of the Brimstone Travelers and Spiritual Harmonies singing groups. She loved going to church with family and friends. She became guardian of her sister's children after her sister passed away.

She is survived by her daughter, Jetty Jean Strunk of Helenwood; two grandsons, sisters: Elsie L. Hamby of Harriman, and Judith A. Simpkins of Indianapolis, Ind.; brothers: Phillmore W. Sexton of Helenwood, James E. Sexton of Pine Bluff, Ark., and Billy D. Sexton of Morgan County; special children: Vickie Hammock Bowling and husband, Dennis, and family of Robbins, Joe Reed and wife, Neolia. and family of Lakeland, Fla.; brother- and sisters-in-law: James Newport, Carrie Brown, and Irene Reed; and many other relatives.

Funeral service was conducted May 16, in the chapel of West-Murley Funeral Home with Bro. Mike Smithers officiating. Music was provided by the Spiritual Harmonies.

Interment followed at Todd-Sexton Cemetery. West-Murley Funeral Home had charge of arrangements. (Source: The Independent Herald, 19 May 2011, pA9)
