Enoch grew up on a tobacco plantation, same as many relatives in the Bedford,VA area. There were "servent's doing most of the work - one can assume they were "slaves", as some of the Abshires owned slaves also. Enoch married Susannah Abshire, daughter of Abraham Abshire, 3 Oct. 1808. In 1811-12 these Pioneers left VA and migrated to Preble Co., OH; in 1831 we find them in the wilderness of Jackson Twp., Elkhart Co.,IN, which in 1836 became the town of New Paris. After Susan's death, Enoch age 66 left with 2 young sons for the Gold Fields of Calif. Turns out they did very well; Enoch brought 320 acres of land in Fresno Co. CA in 1859. Enoch must have been a man of rugged constitution to be going to the Gold Fields of Calif. at the age of 66. Death date and place of death not known for sure. Enoch and Susannah had 12 children.
