Huntingdon Daily News, February 28, 1951:
A 29-year-old Saxton coal miner was instantly killed yesterday, February 27, 1951 while at work in a small mine in Broad Top Township, Bedford County, near Coalmont. Bedford County Coroner Vernon A. Geisel of Alum Bank said today that William Arthur Foor, the victim, died of head injuries when he was caught in a rockfall while working in the small truck mine operated by Russell Thomas. The accident occurred at 7:45 yesterday morning. Geisel said Foor was hit by a large slab of stone which fell directly overhead. The stone measured 30 by 16 inches and was about eight inches thick. The coroner was told Foor apparently was on his knees loading coal info a car at time of the mishap. Coroner Geisel has turned the investigation over to state mine inspectors. He will await their report before determining necessity for an inquest. William Arthur Foor was a son of William Albert Foor of Saxton and Emma (Spahn) Foor. now deceased. He was born in Hollidaysburg, Nov. 23, 1921, and was united in marriage to Miss Dorothy Putt on April 17, 1943, in Hollidaysburg. Besides his father and wife, he is survived by two sons, William Edgar Foor and Larry Glenn Foor, both at home. He is also survived by the following brothers and sisters: George Foor and Mrs. Vera Foor, both of Six Mile Run: Mrs. Stella Gettig, Mrs. Freda Johnston, Mrs. Edith Reed and Charles Foor, all of Saxton; Mrs. Mabel Evans and Mrs. Clara Berryman, both of Niles, Ohio.
