Sambo was born and attended school in Burke. He joined the United States Army and served his country in Korea. He married Margie Watson in 1953. He was a fireman in Lufkin and owned and operated his own construction company. Sambo loved his family, enjoyed watching his granddaughter play softball and loved hunting and fishing. He was a jokester and had a nickname for everyone. He never met a stranger and was a friend to many. He was a member of Harmony Hill Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Margie Watson Nash of Lufkin; daughter, Pam Click of Lufkin; son, Danny Nash of Homer; daughter, Tonya Nash of Lufkin; grandchildren, Alisa and Brandon Weeks and Amanda and Chad Christopher; great-grandchildren, Rainey Williams Christopher and Jace Christopher; sister, Maxine Stringer of Lufkin; and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members and friends.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Nash was preceded in death by his brother, Clyde Nash; and sisters, Lilly Townsend, Viva Hollis, Audie Bill Stringer, Robbie Stringer, and Vivian Johns.
Pallbearers will be Mark Hearne, Paul Hearne, Carroll Nash, Greg Pierce, Jimmy Thompson and Dale Hill. Honorary pallbearers will be Allen Loggins and the Senior Adult Sunday School Class of Harmony Hill Baptist Church.
Services for Mr. Nash will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, December 10, 2011 at Harmony Hill Baptist Church, with Dr. John Greene and Reverend Jim Myers officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday evening at Gipson Funeral Home.
Services have been placed in the trust of Gipson Funeral Home.
