AMMON - Gladys Porter Southwick, 93, of Ammon, died July 25, 2005 at her home of causes incident to age.
She was born October 6, 1911 in Ora, Idaho, near Ashton to Frederick Charles Porter and Stella Mariah Jeppson Porter. She grew up in Ora and attended the one-room school there. She graduated from Ashton High School and graduated from Ricks College with a teaching degree.
On June 8, 1933 she married Glen Southwick in the Logan, Utah, LDS Temple. They lived in Ammon. She was a homemaker and mother and worked as a teacher at Ammon Elementary School in School District 93 for 30 years. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association. Glen died January 19, 1982.
She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in various callings in Sunday School, Primary, and Relief Society. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, oil painting, flower and vegetable gardening, fishing, vacation tours, and Idaho history.
Survivors include her sons, James H. (Reula) Southwick and Glen Ervin (Julia) Southwick, both of Ammon; nine grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Glen; brothers, Frederick Vernon and Steven; and sisters, Constance, Erma, and Mae.
Funeral services will be Friday, July 29, at the Ammon LDS 1st Ward with Bishop Jim Summers officiating. Burial will be in Ammon Cemetery.
