Frederick Porter Dies At Ashton
(Special To The Post-Register)

ASHTON, Sept. 12 — Fredrick Charles Porter, 87, longtime resident of the Ashton area, died at his home five miles west of Ashton Monday evening of causes incident to age.

He was born Nov. 21, 1876, at Oxford, New Zealand, son of Arthur Porter, Sr. and Louise Marie Kobel Porter. When he was three years old his parents came to the United States and settled at Willard, Utah. They lived there until he was six years of age when they moved to Logan. He attended school there including Brigham Young Academy. From 1901 to 1903 he filled a mission for the LDS Church to the Southern States.

He married Stella M. Jeppson Dec. 21, 1904, in the Logan, Utah, LDS Temple. The couple moved to Idaho, settling in the Island Park area, living there one year before moving west of Ashton. There the Porters homesteaded and resided to the present time.

Mr. Porter was an active member of the LDS Church, serving as a counselor in three ward bishoprics, high councilman in the Yellowstone LDS Stake. He also served on the school board at Ora and was a director and secretary of the Arcadia Canal Co.

Survivors are his widow, one son, Fred V. Porter, superintendent of Ririe schools; three daughters, Mrs. Constance Andersen, Alpine, Utah; Mrs. Glen (Gladys) Southwick, Ammon; and Mrs. Gene (Erma) Hess, Ashton; 25 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren; four brothers, Arthur, Rexburg; Frank and Clement, both of Salt Lake City; and George, Denver, Colo.; six sisters, Mrs. Florence Ricks, Logan, Utah; Mrs. Minne Micksell, St. Anthony; Mrs. Emily Heath, Seattle, Wash.,; Mrs. Elizabeth Whittle and Rebecca Chapple, both of Rexburg; and Mrs. Nellie Houle, Salt Lake City. One son, Stephen, and a daughter, Mae, preceded him in death.

Bishop Z. J. Egbert will conduct funeral services Thursday at 1 p.m. in the Ashton LDS Ward Chapel. Interment will be in the Pineview Cemetery at Ashton. Friends may call at the Robert Bean Funeral Home in Ashton Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and the church Thursday from 11 a.m. until service time.
