H.G. Wayne Koepkey, 74

H.G. Wayne Koepkey, 74, of Winamac, died at 5:45 p.m. Thursday, July 5, 2001, at the Pulaski Health Care Center, Winamac. He had been a Lineman for the Northern Indiana Public Service Co. for 27 years, working in the Monticello district.

He was born on May 14, 1927, in Winamac to John C. and Ova Shadle Koepkey. He was married to Carol Lee Smith on June 10, 1948, in Huntington. She died June 7, 1987. He then married Virginia M. Rausch on Dec. 31, 1987. She survives.

He lived all of his life in Winamac.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in World War II.

He was elected sheriff of Pulaski County from 1962-1966.

He was a member of the First Christian Church in Winamac.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge F&AM 262, OES No. 96, IOOF Lodge and the Northern Indiana Power of the Past.

Surviving with his wife are a daughter, Lenora Lee (Marlin) Yoder of Sarasota, Fla.; sons, James (Virginia) Koepkey of Venice, Fla., and Charles (Melanie) Koepkey of Winamac; stepdaughters, Mary Margaret Grube of Rochester and Kathryn L. Rausch of Winamac; stepsons, Gerald Michael Rausch, George J. Rausch Jr., Raymond Rausch and Thomas E. Rausch, all of Winamac, Ronald L. Rausch of Carthage, Andrew J. Rausch of Rochester and Gregory J. Rausch of Logansport; a sister, Cletha Scott of Winamac; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; 22 stepgrandchildren; and several stepgreat-grandchildren.

A son, Paul Koepkey of Winamac; grandson, Daniel Lee Howard Koepkey; stepgrandson, Abram Michael Rausch; brothers, Harold Koepkey and Gerald Koepkey; and sisters, Daisy Button, Irma Good and Pearl Reed, are deceased.

Visitation will be from 2-5 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Sunday and after 8 a.m. Monday at Frain Mortuary, Winamac. A Masonic service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Sunday. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the mortuary with the Rev. Ned Gillum and the Rev. John Hoying officiating.

Burial, with American Legion and VFW graveside services, will be in the McKinley Memorial Gardens, Winamac.

Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church in Winamac or the Alzheimer's Association.
