BUCK ARP OF POLK DIES AT HOSPITAL
County Republican Leader Stricken on His Way to Church at Benton

BENTON, Tenn., Jan. 1--A. R. (Buck) Arp, 72, prominent Polk County Republican leader and county court clerk for 16 years died at 11 a.m. today in a Cleveland (Tenn.) hospital after a heart attack.
He was stricken near the First Baptist Church here while on his way to the morning service.
A native of Monroe County, Mr. Arp had lived in this county for 45 years. In early manhood he was employed by the Louisville & Nashville Railroad at Benton and nearby Farner as station agent.
He was elected first to the county office in 1918, serving for four consecutive terms.
For 30 years Mr. Arp was chairman of the Republican primary board of Polk County and a state committeeman for 26 years. At the time of his death he was a member of the GOP district congressional committee.
Mr. Arp was named a city commissioner here about five years ago when a legislative act reorganized the commission, but he declined to serve.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Nora Arp; two sons, John Arp, Cleveland, and A. R. Arp, Jr., Copperhill, Tenn.; four daughters, Mrs. Robert Latimore, Copperhill; Mrs. Frank Frye, Cincinnati; Mrs. T. J. Harper, Dayton, Tenn., and Mrs. Nora Epperson, Benton; one brother, J. L. Arp, Harriman, Tenn.; two sisters, Mrs. R. L. Cabe, Andrews, N.C., and Mrs. Ben Kirkland, Knoxville, and 11 grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements will be announced.
