Born in Castleberry, Conecuh, Alabama 20 Jan. 1887. Died in Salt Lake City, Utah on 22 May 1911. Married John Claude Johnson 2 Oct. 1904 in Goodway, Monroe County, Alabama. In the spring of 1911 John Claude and Katie moved from Alabama to Malad, Idaho in order for John Claude to work on a farm in Malad with the Arthur Williams family. They were there only two weeks when their son, Reuben Ardon died. Katie, her son Alvin Emmerson and daughter Mary Lou were very ill. They remained sick in bed for many days. It is believed they may have contracted a disease on the train while traveling to Idaho. Katie died in a hospital in Salt Lake City on May 22. In a newspaper article in Salt Lake City it described an operation to remove an abscess from Katie's right lung in which she died four days later. Her funeral was said to have been in the Tabernacle in Malad and Bishop J. Peter Jensen presided. The article said that her casket and the alter were covered with flowers by the kind people of Malad. Katie had expressed to her sister, Susie before leaving Alabama that she had a feeling that she would not live long. She asked Susie to take care of her children if something happened to her. The Williams family of Malad cared for Alvin and Mary Lou in their home for several months until Katie's sister, Susie could travel from Alabama to help John Claude with the children. Katie was a beautiful woman who loved her family very much. She had three children before her death. One not listed below is Alvin Emmerson Johnson born 28 Sep 1906 - 15 Jan. 1987 #46823189.
