Kate Reynold Mebane was the daughter of James Sutton Mebane ( B 12 May 1832 in Caswell, North Carolina, Arkansas CSA) and Henrietta Elisabeth Campbell (married 13 Oct 1857 in Rockbridge Co., Virginia). Her step mother by 1880 census was Agnes. She married Okela B. Dunlap on 12 Oct 1882 in Rockbridge Co., Virginia.

On the 1870 Smith, Cross Co., Arkansas census, I found farmer J. S. Mabane, 38, born in North Carolina; H.E. Mabane, 32, Virginia and Arkansas born Mabane kids: J.C., 10; K.R., 7; R.S., 5 and A.S., 1.


On the 1880 Smith, Cross Co., Arkansas census, I found farmer James S. Mebane, 48, North Carolina; wife (2nd) Agnes Mebane, 32, South Carolina; son James C. Mebane, 20, Arkansas; son Allen S. Mebane, 11, Arkansas; Tennessee born stepkids: stepdaughter Helen G. Privett, 11; stepson James R. Privett, 10; stepson Henry F. Privett, 7 and a servant and their child.


On 12 Oct 1882, Okela B. Dunlap, age 28, single, born Rockbridge, lives Rockbridge, a farmer, the son of M. and M. H. Dunlap, & Kate R. Mebane, age 20, single, born Cross Co., Arkansas, lives Rockbridge, the daughter of J. S. and N. E. Mebane were married by D. A. Penick. Louise M. On the 1900 South River, Rockbridge Co., Virginia census, I found farmer Ora? (sic) B Dunlop, 45, born Apr 1855; wife of 17 years Kate R, 39, May 1861, had 6 kids, all living; daughers or sons: Henrietta, 15, Jul 1884; Lula S, 13, Aug 1886; Charlie W, 11, ? 1888; Mary C, 11, Nov 1888; Walter M, 8, Jul 1891 and Jennie M, 8, July 1881, all born in Virginia (sic).


Daughter Miss Henrietta Campbell Dunlap graduated from the State Normal School at Farmville per the Lexington Gazette 7 Feb 1906 issue.


On the 1920 Lexington, Rockbridge Co., Virginia census, I found cemetery sexton Okela B Dunlap, 64; wife Kate M, 56; daughters or son: teacher Henrietta C, 35; legal stenographer Lorda S, 33; hardware store salesman Charles W, 31 and Jennie M, 29. Kate was born in Arkansas and the rest in Virginia.


"Dr. Walter M. Dunlap, of East Orange, N. J., and Dr. and Mrs. Osbourne Heard, of Baltimore, are visiting Mrs. O. B. Dunlap on Edmondson avenue." Published in the Rockbridge County News, Vol 42, #41, dated 12 Aug 1926.


"Dr. and Mrs. Walter Dunlap, of East Orange, N. J., are visiting Dr. Dunlap's mother, Mrs. O. B. Dunlap, on Edmondson avenue." Published in the Rockbridge County News, Vol 42, #51, dated 21 Oct 1926.


"Mrs. O. B. Dunlap Died In Lexington Monday. Mrs. Kate Mebane Dunlap, widow of Mr. O. B. Dunlap, died Friday morning at her home on Edmondson avenue, Lexington. She had been an invalid for many years. Mrs. Dunlap was born May 20, 1862, at Wynne, Ark., the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Sutton Mebane. Her mother before her marriage was Miss Henrietta E. Campbell of Rockbridge. When Mrs. Dunlap was thirteen, her parents died and she came to Rockbridge to make her home with her aunt, Mrs. Abner Moore. Mr. Dunlap died four years ago. Mrs. Dunlap is survived by six children: Misses Henrietta C., Lula S. and Jennie M. Dunlap, and Charles W. R. Dunlap of Lexington; Mrs. O. O. Beard of Baltimore, and Dr. Walter M. Dunlap of East Orange, N. J. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock at her home with her pastor, Dr. James J. Murray, of the Lexington Presbyterian church, officiating. She was buried in the Lexington cemetery. Those here for the funeral included Dr. Dunlap and Mr. and Mrs. Heard, her children, and her nephew, Allen S. Mebane, Jr., of Baltimore." Kate Reynolds Dunlap was born 20 May 1862 in Wynne, Cross Co., Arkansas, to parents James S Mebane (of Wynne, Arkansas). and Henretta Campbell (of Virginia). She was the widow of O B Dunlap. On 7 Feb 1930, she died in Lexington, Rockbridge Co. Virginia. C W R Dunlap was the informant. VA CD #4664.
