Opal J. McColley

Opal J. McColley, 85, of rural Roann, Indiana, died at 12:20 a.m. Friday, November 25, 2011 at Wabash County Hospital. She was born November 6, 1926 in Huntington County, Indiana to William and Edith (Freshour) Bechtold.

Opal was a 1944 graduate of Roann High School. She married Edward E. McColley in Roann on November 9, 1945. She worked at General Tire and Kroger Egg, both in Wabash, and also worked for Urschel Trash Removal, and J&D Welding in Roann. She was a member of the Roann United Methodist Church and the Wabash American Legion Auxiliary. Opal lived in Roann since 1960 coming from Ijamsville and rural Lagro.

She is survived by her husband, Edward McColley of Roann, Indiana, four children, Ronald (Jennifer) McColley, and Carol (Tim) Kersey, both of Roann, Connie (Bud) Winters of Wabash, and Nancy (Tim) Dillman of Gallatin, Tennessee; 7 grandchildren, Julie (Steve) Coffman of Warsaw, Indiana, Jodie (Mike) Coffman of Roann, Carie (Jay) Snyder of Wabash, Stacey Denton of Roann, Chrissy (Monte) Chamberlain and Kim (Ty) Baer, both of Urbana, Indiana, and Emily Dillman of Gallatin; 15 great grandchildren; 9 Brothers, Melvin Bechtold of Columbia City, Indiana, Billy Bechtold of Huntington, Indiana, Max (Norma) Bechtold of Wabash, Donald (Helen) Bechtold of North Manchester, Indiana, Richard (Ruth) Bechtold of Bippus, Indiana, Tom (Marcella) Bechtold of North Manchester, Jerry (Elsie) Bechtold of Goshen, Indiana, Larry (Diane) Bechtold of North Manchester, and Terry (Becky) Bechtold of Urbana; 2 sisters, Betty McCune of Markle, Indiana and Shelba (Dean) Neher of North Manchester.

Funeral services will be held at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Ave. Wabash on Tuesday, November 29, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Randy Myers officiating. Burial will be in Roann Community Cemetery, Roann. Friends may call 2-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Preferred memorial is Roann Volunteer Fire Department.
