FORT WAYNE - William E. Bechtold, 84, R.R. 3, North Manchester. died at 9:30 a.m. Sunday at Lutheran Hospital. He was born Dec. 1, 1905, in Wabash County, to Thomas E. and Ora (Garber) Bechtold. Both are deceased. He married Edith Leone Freehour on Aug. 22, 1925, in Wabash County. She died Feb. 28, 1984.
Survivors include nine sons, Melvin Bechtold, Columbia City, Billy Becbold and Richard Bechtold, both of Bippus, Max Bechtold, Wabash, Donald Bechtold, Tom Bechtold and Larry Bechtold, All of North Manchester, Jerry Bechtold, Wakarusa and Terry Bechtold, Urbana; three daughters, Mrs. Edward (Opal) McColley, Roann, Mrs. Wayne (Betty)
McCune, Markle, and Mrs. Dean (Shelba) Neher, Urbana; a brother, John Bechtold, North Manchester; a sister, Mrs. Ralph (May) Biehl, Urbana; 45 grandchildren; and 48 great-grandchildren.
A retired farmer, Mr. Bechtold was a lifetime resident of Wabash County and was a member of the Salem United Methodist Church.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Garret and Sloane Colonial Mortuary, with Robert Armstrong officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Servia. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Lutheran Hospital, Oncology Department, or the Salem United Methodist Church. - Date of death: June 8, 1990.
