Alex married Edith McBride November 9, 1904 in Murphysboro, Illinois. Two children were born to this marriage, Calvin and Harry.
Alex was a carpenter in the building construction trade.
On May 21, 1947, Alex and 2 coworkers were building the McCaleb and McBride Building in Ava, Illinois. The scaffolding broke and all 3 men fell. Alex broke his back and the other 2 men were not badly hurt. His back was broken in 3 places. Two places were broken and third place, the spinal chord, was crushed. Alex never walked again. He died 2 months later.
According to his obituary, two weeks before his death he professed faith in Christ and died happy in the spirit of God.
