Peggy graduated with a teaching degree from Middle Tennessee State College (now Middle Tennessee State University). Several years later, Peggy was diagnosed with cancer. The cancer began in her breast but advanced to other areas of her body. Eventually it advanced to the point that she died with a tumor in her brain. Peggy bravely battled the disease with the help of her family and Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Sadly, Peggy died 5 years after graduating from college. She was 27 at the time of her death.
