JOHN C. MINSHALL
Death claimed another Hartford pioneer last Wednesday when J. C. Minshall passed away after a lingering illness at his farm home northeast of Hartford, where he resided with his son, Thomas Minshall and family. Mr. Minshall was 84 years of age and had been a resident of this vicinity for over half a century.
John Calborne Minshall was born in Brantford, Ontario, November 1, 1836. Early in life he removed with his parents to a farm near Thamesville, Ont., where he spent his early manhood.
On May 24, 1861, he united in marriage to Miss Betty Whitesell of Thamesville. They with his parents and family came to Michigan and settled on the farm now owned by D. E. Van Auken northeast of Hartford. A few years later he purchased the farm where he has since resided.
He is survived by three children, Mrs. Flora Butcher of Hartford, Mrs. Emma Minshall of Thamesville, and Thomas Minshall on the old homestead. One daughter, Miss Cassie Minshall, died June 4, 1891, and his wife died July 9, 1906.
Mr. Minshall was esteemed as a kind husband, a loving father, and a good neighbor, who leaves a host of friends and relatives to mourn his death, which occurred December 22, 1920, at the age of 84 years, one month and 21 days.
Funeral services for him were held at the home Friday, Rev. J. H. Rayle officiating, and interment was at the old cemetery on west Main street.
