Mary Myrtle Cunningham Moore was born in the home of her parents Jefferson William Cunningham and Mary Susan Kirkland Cunningham, which was located in Shawnee or Tecumseh, Oklahoma. Although her grave marker indicates a birth year of 1895, she was born on October 2nd in 1893, as confirmed by an announcement in the October 5, 1893, edition of The Tecumseh Republican of Tecumseh, Oklahoma.. Mary Mrytle was the fourth of four children, which, in order of birth, were Foster, Oklahoma Belle, Occa Jefferson, and Mary Myrtle. Throughout her life, Mary was close to her siblings, particularly her sisters.

In 1916 Mary married Alonzo Marties Moore in El Paso, Texas, where Alonzo worked for the El Paso and Southwestern Railroad. The railroad ran between El Paso, Texas, and Tucson, Arizona, including a stop in Bisbee, Arizona. Later that year, the couple opened A.M. Moore Grocery (also known as Moore's Cash & Carry Market) at 521 Tombstone Canyon Road in Bisbee, Arizona, a store they would operate for the remainder of their lives.

Mary and Alonzo had two sons, Lon Alonzo J. and Warren J., both of whom served with distinction in World War II, and one daughter, Mary Myrtle. After her husband's death in 1962, Mary continued to operate A.M. Moore's Grocery into the 1970s.
