Services will be 2 pm Thursday in Central Avenue Baptist Church for Mearl T. Abbitt, 34, who drown Saturday in a mishap in Honey Creek near Grand Lake. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
Born here, Abbitt drown in 10 feet of water after he had fallen from a raft. He was a truck driver at Tinker Field, member of the Baptist church and veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Abbitt, of the home 1732 SW 18; his parents, Mr & Mrs W. J. Abbitt, route 11; four sisters, Mrs May Gable, Colton, CA; Mrs Elsie Byus, 716 SE 16; Mrs Oma Ritchie, Picher; and Mrs Myrtle Jolly, route 11. Also, five brothers, Jim Abbitt, Everett, WA: Ray Abbitt, 714 SW 42; Velmer Abbitt, Glendale, AZ; and Carl Abbitt, Trenton, SC.
