Son of Sarah Ellerbe and Stephen Godbold Miles. Stephen married (1) Sarah Mullins, and (2) Blanche McMillan.

MARION - S. Cecil Miles, 52, prominent Marion farmer, took his own life at his home here today by shooting himself with a pistol.

Miles, the son of S. G. Miles, chairman of the Marion county board of commissioners, was found in a dying condition by neighbors shortly after. He was rushed to a Mullins hospital where he died at 2:30 o'clock this afternoon.

Relatives stated that they were at a loss as to why he committed the act. However, it was said that he had been suffering from a stomach ailment for several months. He underwent an operation at the McLeod Infirmary in Florence about a year ago and had recently spent several days there undergoing treatment.

Miles is survived by his wife, the former Miss Blanche McMillan, one daughter, Miss Sherwood Miles and one son, S. Cecil Miles, Jr.

In addition to his parents, Mr. and Mrs. S. G. Miles, he is survived by two brothers, W. F. Miles and Sam E. Miles of Marion, Mrs. R. E. Smith and Miss Juanita Miles of Marion, Mrs. J. R. Montgomery of Camden and Mrs. J. W. Howard and Mrs. Theo Friar of Florence.

Funeral services will take place at the home in Marion tomorrow at 5 p.m. Interment will take place at Rose Hill Cemetery.
