Mrs. Samuel Sheriff: Another of Geneseo's long time residents, Mrs. Martha Jane Sheriff, widow of the late Samuel Sheriff, has passed away, her death occurring at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Flora Fisher in Chicago, Saturday evening Oct. 5, 1907. Deceased had lived in Geneseo since 1863 and was beloved by many because of her friendly and kindly nature. Until her children grew to mature years and went to establish homes of their own, and even then until her husband passed away Mrs. Sheriff's life was given to the work of making her home a happy one. And her friends and neighbors always shared in this happiness. Her's was a cheerful nature, such as makes the world better. In her advanced years she was called to suffer much because of feeble health but this she bore with Christian fortitude. In her declining years the love and affection she had given so freely in her active years was returned to her in care and attention at the hands of her children.
