Mr. Robert S. Sports, 88, of Waycross died Sunday morning at the Hospice Satilla Hospice House after a brief illness. He was born in Waycross to the late Marcus L. Sports and Estella Ogden Sports. Mr. Sports had made Waycross his home for his entire life.

He served in the United States Army during World War II. He served in Normandy, Central Europe, Northern France and Germany. After the war he returned home and began working with CSX Railroad. He retired from CSX in 1983 after over forty years of service. Mr. Sports attended Jamestown Methodist Church with his wife Dorothy. He was a member of the Veteran's of Foreign Wars, the Satilla Regional Medical Center Auxiliary, and the CSX Officer's Club. Mr. Sports enjoyed fox hunting and gardening.

Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Sports, a daughter, Frances Lee Sports, two granddaughters, Samantha Sports, Cathy Sports, two sisters, Joann Mobley, Ernestine Davis, and two brothers, Harry Sports and J.E. Sports.

Mr. Sports is survived by two sons, Bobby Sports and his wife Linda of Brunswick, Frank Sports and his wife Sandra of Blackshear, two daughters, Anna Johnston and her husband Warren of Hoboken, Reda Sports of Waycross, six grandchildren, Connie Croft and her husband Eric of Brunswick, Rhonda Terry and her husband Donald of Brunswick, Chris Johnston and his wife Diane of Moultrie, Lisa Clark and her husband Lee of Hoboken, Sam Sports and his fiancé Erica of Blackshear, Taylor Sports of Blackshear, seven great grandchildren, Tyler Croft, Donald Terry III, Katie Terry, Bryce Johnston, Carson Johnston, Quinton Brooks, Brittney Brooks, three sisters, Virginia Taylor of St. Simons Island, Mary Burch of Waycross, Imogene Hodges of Birmingham, Alabama, a brother-in-law, Buddy Mobley of Waycross and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Tuesday in the Miles-Odum Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Kettle Creek Cemetery. The family requests members of the CSX Officer's Club and members of the Mayo Clinic Health Systems of Waycross Auxiliary to serve as honorary pallbearers and should gather at the chapel by 10:45 a.m., Tuesday.

The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6-8 p.m., at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Satilla, 808 Evergreen Way, Waycross, Georgia 31501.
