She was born in Waycross to the late Robert S. Sports and Dorothy Lee Anderson Sports.
Mrs. Johnston had made the Waycross area her home for her entire life. She worked for many years for Southern Bell Telephone Company until the company moved from Waycross to Jacksonville. After her time with Southern Bell, she cherished her role as a homemaker, caring for and supporting her husband, children and grandchildren. Mrs. Johnston was a member of the Methodist Church. She loved going on cruises, working with arts and crafts and collecting antiques.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Frances Lee Sports.
Mrs. Johnston is survived by her husband, Warren Johnston of Hoboken, two children, Chris Johnston and his wife Diane of Moultrie, Lisa Clark and her husband Lee of St. Simons Island, four grandchildren, Bryce Johnston (Karen), Carson Johnston, Quinton Brooks (Ashley), Brittany Jackson (Britton), four great grandchildren, Jace, Spurgeon, Candler, Colt, Sawyer, two brothers, Bobby Sports and his wife Linda of Brunswick, Frank Sports and his wife Sandra of Blackshear, Reda Sports of Waycross, a sister-in-law, Linda Robbins and her husband Richard of Waycross and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday in the Miles-Odum Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Kettle Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday at the funeral home beginning at 12:00 p.m. Due to Covid-19, seating will be limited to comply with CDC regulations. All attendees are asked to wear a mask during the service.
