Funeral services for Mrs. Lona Bell Young were held on Wednesday, November 16, 2011, at 2:00p.m. at Ephesus Baptist Church. Rev. Ray Payne officiated. Interment followed the services at Sardis Cemetery.

Mrs. Young passed away on Friday, November 11, 2011, at Mexia LTC (formerly The Haven Nursing Home) in Mexia.

She was born in Jewett to Henry & Villy Hastings and graduated from Jewett High School. She married Walter Glen Young on February 9, 1952 and shared over forty-four years together until being separated by his death. Mrs. Young lived in Houston for over thirty years and returned to Marquez in 1981 where she remained until her health failed and she moved to Mexia just a few years ago. She enjoyed cooking and helping others, especially her family and was a true "Momma" to many. Mrs. Young was a member of Ephesus Baptist Church.

She is survived by one daughter, Tammy Wilkins & husband Anthony of Mexia; four granddaughters, Ginger Persilver & husband Chris of Corsicana, Amber Wilkins and Lacie Wilkins both of Mexia, and Vickie Padgett Hime & husband Jimmy of Jewett; two great-grandchildren, Caleb Persilver and Harmony Boyd; three brothers, Eskal Hastings & wife Mozelle of Onalaska, Martin Hastings & wife Elaine of Jewett, and Joe Hastings & wife Judy of Jewett; three sisters, Josie McCoslin of Marquez, Ava Nell Leach & husband Walter of Buffalo, and Mary Gafford of Mexia; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Young was preceded in death by her husband; two sons, Kenneth Young and Phillip Young; and two brothers, Edmond Hastings and Johnny Hastings.
