His life read like a dime novel. He crossed the plains in an early day. [He]fought Indians and wild animals, had both legs broken and badly set by an ignorant doctor.[He] homesteaded 4 miles north of Del Norte.
============================
San Juan Prospector dated April 30, 1926
Samuel Oscar Goodman was born in Delaware, Ohio, Sept. 18, 1847. He died in Del Norte at the home of Clarence Goodman April 24, 1926, at age 78. Funeral services were held at the M.E. Church Sunday afternoon. Pallbearers were Gus Weiss, Henry Aydelotte, William Smiley, Leonard Hobson, Claude Lindley, and Albert Bingel. He was interred at Del Norte cemetery beside his wife who had preceded him some years ago.
He was joined in wedlock to Alcesta Jacoby at Indianola, Iowa August 24, 1872. From this union four sons were born: Clarence O., Ira M., Joel A., and Charles L. Goodman, all of Del Norte.
Mr. & Mrs. Goodman came from Iowa to Del Norte Nov. 7, 1887. Mrs. Goodman died Nov 24, 1921. Mr. & Mrs. Goodman were pioneer members of the First M.E. church in Del Norte.
The life of S. O. Goodman, better known as “Butch” Goodman among his friends had a life that would read like the old time dime novel. He crossed the plains in an early day, meeting with all sorts of vicissitudes, fought the Indians and wild animals in Wyoming, and had both legs broken then set by an ignorant doctor. After coming to Del Norte he and his noble wife took up a homestead four miles north and east of Del Norte upon which they lived until her death.
He leaves to mourn his departure the four sons mentioned; two sisters, Mrs. Sophia Parks of Des Moines, Iowa, and Mrs. L. Perce of Indianola, Iowa; two brothers, A.E. Goodman of Indianola and William Goodman of Missouri; six grandchildren and one great grandchild.
