"Martin V Heliker, 87, formerly of Spartansburg, died Monday morning following an extended illness. He was born Sept 18, 1889, at Belle Valley, son of Lester and Lily Baily Heliker. On Sept 1, 1921, he married Cora Baney. She died April 5, 1965. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served in World War I. He had served overseas in France. Mr Heliker is survived by four daughters, Mrs Fred (Maxine) Morris of Centerville, RD 1, Mrs Flossie Terrill of Erie, Mrs Cleo Burik of Erie, and Mrs David (Kathryn) Pring of Kissimee, Fla; two sons, E Lee Heliker of Spartansburg, RD 2, and Milton C Heliker of Union City; 25 grandchildren; [and] 27 great-grandchildren. One son, Martin Heliker Jr; three sisters, Enza Morris, Que Morris and Fanny Heliker; and two brothers, Clark and Chester, died previously. Friends may call at the H Richard Hays Funeral Home in Spartansburg...and attend the funeral there Thursday at 2 pm with Rev Clyde May, former pastor of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church of Spartansburg, officiating. Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Spartansburg. Members of the John Krol Post VFW of Union City will conduct military graveside services."
