He resided in Shullsburg until 1906, when he came to South Dakota with his parents who homesteaded northwest of Fulton in Hanson county. On January 15, 1908, he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Driver, at Darlington, Wisconsin. Following their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Benson came to Hanson county where they have since resided.
Mr. Benson was a member of the Fulton Odd Fellows lodge.
Besides his widow, he is survived by six daughters, Mrs. Lester Porter, Mitchell; Mrs. Tony Metz, Alexandria, S. D.; Eleanor Benson, of Sioux Falls; Mrs. Leroy McIntyre, Lorene Benson, and Opal Benson, all of Longview, Wash.; eight grandchildren, and four brothers, Austin Benson and E. W. Benson, both of Mitchell; F. L. Benson, Fulton, and Elvin Benson, of Alexandria, S. D.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon, September 5, at the Fulton Methodist church with the Rev. Marvin E. Jones of Mitchell and the Rev. W. P. Slocum of Fulton officiating. Burial was made in the Fulton cemetery under the direction of the Broadbent funeral home. The service at the grave was in charge of the Fulton Odd Fellows. The pallbearers were Clement Miles, Mike Weber, Claude Hildebrand, Glen Soladay, Willis Boehmer, and Julius Bertsch, all members of the Fulton Odd Fellows lodge.
