Leander Lafayette Lewis was born circa 1828, probably Rutherford Co, but possibly, Warren/Cannon Co., TN., since the boundry lines changed quite a few times. The 1830 Census shows his parents, Russell Lewis and Delilah Moore Lewis at Ru-262, with 1 son and 1 daughter. The children would have been Leander Lafayette Lewis (b.1828) and Rosanna Lewis (b.1830). They were living with, or near, Samuel Moore, Delilah's brother. Samuel Moore was also listed at Ru-262 in the 1830 census.
Leander L. Lewis was the first child of 11 known children. He married Margaret Adeline Givens, 22 Feb 1859, in Cannon Co.,TN. In the 1860 Census, they were living near Margaret's father, Merritt Givens, in Cannon Co., TN.
A Leander L. Lewis shows up on the 1870 Census of Wilson Co.,TN, but it is uncertain if this is the same Leander L. Lewis. I would assume so, only because there were not many Lewis's by those given names. It lists his age as 35 years old, in 1870, which is about a ten year difference, but it could be a census error.
Leander L. Lewis, served in the CSA during the Civil War and was with the 35th Regiment, Company "A", Tennessee Infantry (5th Infantry), (1st Mountain Rifle Regiment). Four of the Lewis brothers were in Company "A" together. I have found no other record for Leander L. or Margaret A. Givens Lewis, so it is uncertain as to when and where they died, or where they were buried.
