William Harrison Young Jr. was born in Tucson, the son of William Harrison Young Sr. and Effie May Butler Young, the fifth of the eight children born to his parents. Growing up in Binghampton, the small community outside Tucson, he learned the principle of hard work, helping his father who farmed and ran a dairy. He first married Jeanette LaChance and they were the parents of two children. Their first child, a son, passed away one day after his birth. The marriage ended in divorce and he later married Lucille Marie Sheaffer Todd. She was a widow – her husband losing his life in Germany during WWII. Lucille had a son Ronnie Todd from this marriage.
Bill and Lucille were the parents of one son and lived most of their married lives in their home next door to his parents in Binghampton. After his and his wife's retirement, they later bought a home near Broadway and Tucson Blvd. in Tucson. Bill had served in the Navy during WWII. He later worked for the Pacific Fruit Express, which was a railroad refrigerator car leasing company, a joint venture with the Union Pacific and Southern Pacific Railroad companies. But his passion in life, besides family and church was hunting. His yearly hunting trips were looked forward to all year long and many of his nephews went with him when they were old enough. They shared expenses of the trip, as Bill was very cost-conscious about everything he did. After the death of his wife Lucille in May 2004, he sold their mid-town home and went to live with his son Mark and his wife in Thatcher, Arizona, where he passed away in May 2006. He is buried in the East Lawn Cemetery, next to his wife Lucille.
