Philip Kent Young was born in September 1919 in Tucson, the sixth of eight children born to his parents, William Harrison Young Sr. and Effie May Butler Young. He grew up in Binghampton, the small community northeast of Tucson, Arizona. His father was a farmer and also ran a dairy, earning a living for his family by hard work and good work ethics, which he taught his sons. He first married Florence Ernestine Crowell and they were the parents of two children: a daughter who died at birth and a son. In time, the marriage ended in divorce. Kent was in the U.S. Army during WWII, serving in Germany from May 1944 until October 1946. It was in Germany that he met his next wife, Ingeborg Mohl Huhle, who was the mother of two children - a daughter and son. She became his war bride after he brought her to America. They were married in July 1948. They were the parents of one daughter. He and his wife Inge had owned a cleaning outlet in Binghampton on Ft. Lowell Rd. Kent had been working in the cleaning industry before his marriage to Inge. In time, this marriage also ended in divorce. He later met his third wife Lucy, who was working in a cleaning outlet. They married in February 1966. Lucy had three daughters from a previous marriage. During this marriage, Kent had an accident that cost him his lower left leg. In 1980, he was using a rented rototiller when he hit a rock, bouncing the rototiller back towards his leg. It caught his pants leg and did severe injury to the leg, which had to be amputated below the knee. He suffered phantom pain in the leg, which gave him a lot of distress. He also developed esophageal cancer and passed away in December 1982.
