He was born July 6, 1916, in Lisbon, Mo., to Zeres M. and Bessie P. (Johnson) O'Bryan. He grew up and attended school in Franklin, Mo. He worked for a shoe factory there for a time until going to work for the Katy Railroad. In 1948, he moved to Parsons.
He married Edith E. Mason on May 17, 1949, in Erie. She preceded him in death on Aug. 18, 2001. In 1963 they moved to Kansas City, where he worked for the Santa Fe Railway. He retired from Santa Fe in 1976. Following retirement they moved to Boonville, Mo., where they lived until moving back to Parsons in 1994.
Survivors include five sons, Everett D. O'Bryan of Oak Park, Ill., Ronald L. Harper of Indiana, Ed O'Bryan of Ukiah, Calif., John O'Bryan of Lucerne, Calif., and Jim O'Bryan of Parsons; five daughters, Betty Nicholas, Macy Ann Carson and Cecelia "Lei" Wade, all of Parsons, Lolitta A. Hedrick of Smithville, Mo., and Sami (O'Bryan) Stern of Kansas City, Kan.; 35 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Earl O'Bryan of Boonville, Mo.; and five sisters, Bessie Pearl Dodson, Anna Mae Johns and Bertie Marie Gerding, all of New Franklin, Mo., Betty Jean Willis of Mexico, Mo., and Zora Lee Long of Imperial Beach, Calif.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, two infant sisters and two grandchildren.
The service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home with the Rev. Mark Koch officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Parsons. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, where friends may call after 1 p.m.
