Obituary:
Odaysel Calender, 91, passed away peacefully in Homer Alaska on November 4, 2011. Private graveside service will be at Haven of Memories Memorial Park in Canton.
Odaysel Faye White was born 7 Feb 1920 and raised on a farm in Bethlehem near Edgewood in Van Zandt County, the daughter of John Dump White and Bertha Alma Long White. Preceded in death by 16 brothers & sisters. She was the last of a family of 17 children.
In Feb 1938 she married Virgil Glenn Daugherty in Van Zandt County Texas. Virgil preceded her in death in 1966. To this union 7 children were born all of who survive her. She later married A.D. Calender who also preceded her in death in 1987.
At the age of 57 she graduated LVN school in 1977 and retired from Terrell State Hospital Dec 1982 after 15 yrs of service and moved to Tyler where she spent 25 yrs of her life. At the age of 89 she moved north to Alaska.
She is survived by 7 children…Danny Daugherty of Troutman North Carolina, Dewey Daugherty of Dallas, Doug Daugherty of Josephine, Dwaine Daugherty of Hawkins, Elaine Ward of Homer Alaska, Joyce McWilliams of Tyler and Royce Daugherty of Divide Colorado. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. 2 grandchildren preceded her in death.
Odaysel enjoyed working crossword puzzles, sewing, cooking, country music, gardening and was thoroughly devoted to her family. She kept excellent family records and spent hundreds of hours of her life researching and documenting her family history.
Her family would like to express their love, gratitude and admiration to her for all her wisdom, kindness, selflessness, honesty, encouragement and positive cheerful attitude. She was the most loving and supportive mother, grandmother, wife & friend a person could have. Born in a little community called Bethlehem, now on her way home to Heaven.
