FRANK

Leone A. Frank was born on a farm one mile north of Chariton on Sept. 18, 1918. She passed away March 13, 1998 at her home in Chariton at the age of 79.

Leone grew up in Lucas County. She attended schools in the towns of Chariton, Williamson and Russell. She graduated from Russell High School in the class of 1937.

She was united in marriage on June 29, 1941 to John "Jack" Frank in Princeton, Mo. To this union were born two sons, Tom Frank of Chariton and Jim Frank of Pella.

Leone lived for a short time in Davenport while her husband was stationed in New Guinea during World War II. During this time, Leone worked for a foundry in Davenport.

In 1947, Leone and her husband returned to the Chariton area. They bought a large home where she opened a boarding house called The Cottage House. She also worked for several years at Gross Galesburg pants factory. In 1960, she and her husband purchased and ran a successful tavern known as "Leone's." They ran this business for approximately 17 years.

In 1979, Leone and Jack purchased the Williamson Grocery Store. Due to failing health, Leone and her husband retired. They then bought a small acreage just north of Chariton.

She was a lifetime member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and a converted member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Preceding her in death were her husband Jack Frank; her mother, Lura Montgomery, father, Thomas "Casey" Montgomery; and two brothers, Edward, as an infant and William Montgomery.

Leone is survived by her two sons, Tom Frank of Chariton and James Frank and wife, Terri of Pella; two grandchildren, Teric "T.J." and Tori Frank of Pella; two sisters, Louise and husband Roy Briggs of Williamson, and Elzene Hutchings of Chariton; sister-in-law and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Wilderson of Sanibel, Florida, numerous nieces, nephews and many dear friends.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 17, 1998, at the Fielding Funeral Home with the Rev. Fr. Allan Stetz officiating. Burial was in the Chariton Cemetery. Serving as bearers were Gene Briggs, Roy Briggs Jr., Larry Briggs, Monte Hutchings, Rick Hutchings, Bob Hutchings, William Montgomery and Greg Clay.
