WILLIAM MONTGOMERY
William Thomas Montgomery, son of John and Loretta Montgomery, was born Sept. 4, 1896 in Givin, Iowa and passed away at the Charles Beckham home in Lucas, at the age of 59 years, 11 days. Mrs. Beckham is Mrs. Montgomery's mother.
He was united in marriage to Lura Apgar in 1916. To this union five children were born, Mrs. Roy Briggs and Mrs. Jay Hutchings of Williamson; Mrs. John Frank and William Jr. of Chariton and a baby who died in infancy.
Most of his life was spent in Lucas county where he worked in coal mines for 42 years.
In April 1938, he was married to Charlotte Patterson. Besides his wife and children, he is survived by one sister, Mrs. James Sawtelle of Rawlins, Wyo.; 14 grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, mother, five brothers and a sister.
For several years Mr. Montgomery was an active member of the Eagle's Lodge.
Funeral services were held 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, 1955 at the Beardsley funeral home, the Rev. Charles O'Conner officiated. Burial was in the Fry Hill Cemetery near Lucas.
