Peter Spaulding Jr. was the son of Peter Spaulding Sr. and Tamar Bartlett. His paternal grandparents were Lieutenant Benjamin Spaulding and Mary Heald.
Benjamin Spaulding was born on 14 August 1743 in Townsend, Massachusetts and died on 27 May 1832 in Townsend. He served in the Revolutionary War as a Sergeant in Captain James Hasley's Company and Colonel William Prescott's Regiment. He was a school teacher as were three of his daughters.
Peter Spaulding Jr. married Lucy P. Larned on 18 January 1829. She was the daughter of Daniel Larned.
