Robert "Bob" Edward Lee Fant, 9th child of Edward Waldo and Sarah Caroline Simmons Fant was born in Cass County, Linden. He married first Jewell Hendricks and had two children. He married second Fannie Fort and had two children.

Bob was a farmer, merchant and operated a filing station in Lanier and Linden. As a child he was sickly and possessed a very high temper.
