BICKNELL, UT -Our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, Jessie Heaps Giles, age 89, of Bicknell, died June 19, 2002 in Mayfield, Utah.
She was born Feb. 23, 1913 in Escalante, Utah, a daughter of Thomas Heber and Susannah Alvey Heaps.
She married Henry Ellett Giles, April 6, 1946 in Bicknell, Utah. Their marriage was solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple June 21, 1956.
He died March 15, 1988. Jessie was very active in the LDS Church, serving in all auxiliaries, in both the Thurber Ward and the Wayne Stake.
She enjoyed oil painting and doing handiwork, crocheting, needle point, embroidery, tatting and knitting.
Jessie is survived by her children: Gloria Lemmon of Bicknell, currently serving in the Australia Sidney North LDS Mission; Karen and Sheldon Ellett of Gunnison; daughter-in-law: Susan and Carl Bettis of Goshen; 18 grandchildren; 41 great grandchildren; sister: Afton H. King of Richfield.
She was preceded in death by a son, Robert Henry Giles, June 16, 1997; a grandson, Gary Vanor Okerlund, Aug. 17, 1997; also by one brother and four sisters: Lester Heaps, Clarice Griffin, Grace Baker, Alecia Woolsey and Ethel Durfey.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 22, 2002 at 1:00 p.m. in the Thurber LDS Ward Chapel, in Bicknell, where friends may call for viewing Saturday from 11:00 to 12:30 prior to the services.
Burial will be in the Bicknell Cemetery under the direction of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina.
